Alex Madden (Volunteer Fundraiser)

Hello, my name is Alex, and I was born with three fingers on my left hand. Growing up, I was a member of Reach and attended some of the amazing events Reach creates for children to come together and socialise with people with similar differences to them. I remember flying in a light aircraft around Arundel Castle (so cool!) and attending some sort of disco, dancing to Reach by S Club 7! This prompted me to do a sponsored walk for Reach when I was 9 years old and I’m excited to be back and have the chance to get more involved with Reach once again!

Reflecting on my time with Reach as a child, I believe my experiences with other children like me empowered me to become the person I am today – confident and unashamed; I have an upper limb difference and it’s a part of me, but it doesn’t define me. I have realised how much I owe to Reach and the opportunities it gave me to feel accepted and supported from a very young age. I am so excited to be able to give back to Reach and support such a fantastic charity that continues to enable children to grow up with confidence, no matter their limb difference, and feel empowered to be the person they want to be. Thank you for welcoming me to the team!
