The link above takes you to the letter Reach Trustees wrote to Warner Brothers asking them to get in touch, so that we could work with them to undo some of the wrong they had done through the Witches film. We had a couple of responses from them with their ‘standard apology’ and stating as Warner Brothers are an American company they have decided to work with Lucky Finn and give them a donation to help raise awareness of limb differences.
We did respond and explain how we felt it was important to work with a UK charity (it was based on a book written by a British Author and the film was made in the UK), but their minds seem to be made up. When asked if they had any plans to put up a disclaimer on the film they responded “As you know, The Witches is available in theaters worldwide and currently streaming, and as such there are no edits planned for the film at this time” It is very sad not to have had a better outcome from this situation, but we must now move on and try and take the positives from the issue and celebrate how it bought our community together to support one another.
One extra bit of exciting news is that Reach are working James and some members to create a film about Limb Difference that will be able to be used when trying to educate people, this will be made available to anyone who would like to use it i.e. taking into schools
