Booking are now open for RAW 2019. To be held in Bristol on the 28th July – 4th August. The venue is Goblin Coombe Activity Centre, Cleeve Hill Road, Cleeve, Bristol, BS40 5PP
Activities
The fun includes climbing, abseiling, canoeing, problem solving, archery, coasteering, raft building, high ropes and other challenges. Children are not forced to take part in every activity although we find most can be persuaded to give it a go and we certainly encourage them to do so. Days are action packed, with a regular breaks and evening are full of games and other activities until about 21.00.
Supervision
Adult Reach members join us as volunteer mentors to the children, as they know what it is like to grow up with a limb deficiency. Our mentors have all been on a specific mentor training weekend and hold a current CRB Certificate.
The Outdoor Adventure staff are responsible for the program of activities, are trained and they proudly publicise that 70% of their staff have been with them for more than 6 yrs and have a vast experience on coaching and personal development.
We aim to have a 1:8 volunteer to child ratio for the times when Outdoor Adventure are not in attendance.
Domestic Arrangements
The week is full board but some help is expected with domestic chores! All the children are expected to be independent enough to be able to manage their own personal hygiene needs. The week is very tiring for all concerned but also very rewarding with many of the children returning year after year. Parents, siblings and friends outside Reach are not invited!
Sleeping
The children share dormitories depending on their sex and age. Bedtimes are arranged according to age groups. We take an age range from 10 – 18 so we stagger bedtimes to try and please everyone.
Transport
Reach provides transport to and from the venue by means of coaches picking up at Motorway service stations. Pick ups are chosen based on where the children are coming from and how many times a coach driver can pick up and still manage the journey in his allotted time. We will confirm the pick up times/venues when booking is complete. We will endeavour to get as close to home addresses as we can.
Kit List
You can download the suggested kit list here
Cost
Reach subsidise the week but to help us allocate our resources we ask parents/carers to make a contribution towards the cost of the week in proportion to their own financial circumstances and if possible no less than £350. Each place costs Reach £650 and transport for 2018 was over £4500. However, if any member feels that even the minimum contribution would exclude their child, please speak to Kate (in confidence), We do not want your child to miss out.
The children will need a little pocket money for drinks, chocolate etc, we suggest £2/3 day.
We also have Reach hoodies printed every year with the centre name/year on, these must be ordered & paid for at the time on booking.
