Mentor Training in the Welsh Hills.
Join the Mentor Training course in Machynlleth 15th to 17th May 2020
Become a mentor to younger Reach children, show them how you have succeeded and inspire them to know that all Reach members should live life without limits.
Boost your CV, use in your personal statement for Uni or use the training/volunteering hours towards your Duke of Edinburgh award.
If you are 18 or over and would like to be a supportive, inspiring mentor to younger Reach members, this weekend is designed for you. The only prerequisite is that you need to have a limb difference, but no other experience or qualifications needed. Places are limited to 10 and are booked strictly first come first served.
Training is FREE and held over 2 days, we will even reimburse travel expenses to get to and from the venue. On completion of the weekend, we will provide a reference for all who take part as evidence of skills learnt. We will arrange to collect you from the station at Machynlleth which can be reached via the main line from Birmingham New Street Station. Accommodation is basic bunkhouse style (not a luxury hotel!) and catering will be communal. Friday night arrival and Sunday afternoon departure.
Mentors regularly get involved with Reach Activity Week which draws 40 children aged 10-18yrs and this year, will be held 26th July – 2nd August at Thirsk, Yorkshire. Potential volunteers should be available to join us for the whole week – but if you can’t make these dates, it doesn’t mean you are not welcome to join the training, we are keen to develop our young adults for future years.
We will be taking 8 volunteers so cannot guarantee that all those attending the training weekend will be chosen to join the full RAW week, as it depends on skill and gender mix as we need to offer safe care to the children.
This year we will also looking for mentors to go to Tyn Cae on 22nd to 25th May (though this may be a little close to the training weekend for this year’s recruits so previously trained mentors will be invited to attend. and help with the family activity weekend, and then also for the annual family weekend 23rd-25th October.
