Reach are proud and excited to be able to offer our members, aged between 16-21, this fantastic life changing opportunity of a youth development programme combining a sailing voyage and wilderness expedition between the UK and Iceland lasting 4 weeks.
This exciting opportunity is brought to you by the British Exploring Society (BES) and Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) who have joined together with a view to delivering one of the most ambitious youth development programmes in the world; a multi-year expedition programme for disabled and non-disabled young people across land and sea.
Dangoor Infinity Overview
The expedition will have two phases, a sailing voyage between the UK and Iceland and a remote expedition in Iceland.
The Expedition team will be split into two equal groups comprised of both disables and non-disabled young people.
Each group will undertake a 4 week expedition, spending two weeks on land in Iceland and two weeks at sea aboard the tall ship SV Tenacious. One group will sail out from the UK to Iceland whilst the other group will fly. 2 weeks in, the groups will swap over, with those who were trekking in Iceland sailing back to the UK and the other group beginning their trek in Iceland, before flying home.
Groups will be supported by a team of highly experienced and qualified adult leaders representing British Exploring Society and Jubilee Sailing Trust.
A diverse group of young people will find the experience challenging and transformational. They will learn more about themselves and give them a chance to make a real change to their life and through completing the programme return more energised, ambitious and with a more positive outlook on their community and the world around them.
The programme is accessible for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and young people with physical disabilities, long term health conditions and learning difficulties. The mixed-ability format of the groups will be to the benefit of all.
Costs for Dangoor Infinity programme have been hugely subsidised through funding and individual donations, including generous support from the Dangoor family through the Exilarch Foundation.
The cost to the individual is £900, this will be made up of a £200 deposit, followed by two stage payments to be completed by end of May 2019. There is advice on fundraising in the attached documents.
If you have any concerns regarding the £900 please DON’T let this discouraged you. Reach are very keen to make sure all our young members have an equal opportunity to take advantage of this fabulous experience.
